The Genre DNA Starter Kit
The reason 99% of Suno songs sound the same is an input problem. The fix is a decision you make before the prompt: choosing the world your song lives in. That decision is called Genre DNA— here’s how to make it.
1 · The Genre DNA research prompts
Paste either one into a capable AI assistant to build a precise profile for any genre.
1 · Build a genre profile from scratch
Make a comprehensive list of 10 popular [GENRE] subgenres, plus the leading artists, recurring themes, common tempos, and signature moods. For 8–10 example songs, include the key, the chord progression, and the tempo in BPM. Focus on what is trending right now.
2 · Reverse-engineer artists into a profile
Reverse-engineer these artists into a single genre profile — [artist 1], [artist 2], [artist 3]. Give me the shared subgenre traits, tempo range, key/chord tendencies, production hallmarks, themes, and mood, so I can describe that world precisely.
2 · The Hybrid-Stack Style Formula
My go-to for simple andadvanced prompts. Stack 2–4 genres, give each a BPM, and collide an ancient/acoustic drum with modern low-end. Paste into Suno’s Style of Music box:
[ethnicity + gender of voice]. [genre A] x [genre B] x [genre C]; [#]bpm, [#]bpm, [#]bpm. [ancient/acoustic drum], [modern bass], [modern drums]; [chord character], [arrangement]. Lyrics: "[TITLE]", [emotion], billboard #1 hit song lyric; no lyric references to the production or sound elements, no cliché, no intro. [gender of voice]; [vocal style].
Worked example:
Black soulful male singing, Future-bass x trap-soul x African-tribal x Boombap; 110bpm, 150bpm, 98bpm. Ewe drum, booming 808 bass, triplet trap drums; complex chords, hook/vrs/hook/vrse/hook. Lyrics: "Everyday we do this", billboard #1 hit song lyric, fresh metaphors, clever, catchy; no lyric references to the production or sound elements, no cliché, no intro. Deep Black baritone male rap voice.
